How to protect yourself from hackers [INFOGRAPHIC]

Remember the hacking story of Chelsea Clark? Chelsea was a 27-year-old bartender living in Toronto when her laptop camera was hacked in the middle of the night as she watched Netflix with her boyfriend.

“We obviously had no idea it was taking place in the moment, but retroactively it was like a really, really deeply creepy feeling. It was very unnerving. I mean it does feel like there’s someone just in your home with you.”

The hacker who used the pseudonym, Mahmoud Abdo, took control over her boyfriend’s laptop webcam, video taped her, snapped a few still images of Chelsea while she was with her boyfriend, proceeded to hack into her Facebook, posted the intimate video on her timeline from a ‘fake account’ and left one chilling message, ‘Realy, cute couple [sic].’

But how is this possible when one has a “default anti-virus” and other security tools that protect us from unwanted eyes?

Hacking into laptop cameras in today’s information-rich world is rather simple, especially with all the how-to YouTube videos floating around in the web. According to Huffington Post, there is a 69% chance that one may be hacked in a lifetime — that’s a big number. And cyber security and privacy are big issues.

Let’s take a look at the infographic below and figure out just how hackable your life is in today’s world and what you can do to protect yourself from hackers.
